Craft vs. Notion: Which Productivity Tool Is Better

Modular productivity software like Craft, Notion, Airtable, and Coda have soared in popularity in the last few years. Notion and Craft are quite well-known among consumers, small teams, and startups. But which one is better for your workflow? Let’s learn the differences between the two.

This post will compare Craft and Notion based on UI, templates, AI, cross-platform availability, price, features, sharing, and more. Let’s get started.

Cross-Platform Availability

Let’s first start with the cross-platform availability. Craft is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, and the web. Unfortunately, you can’t access it on Android.

Notion is slightly ahead with apps for iPhone, Windows, Mac, iPad, web, and Android. Do note that Notion apps feel and look inferior on mobile. They are web wrappers on iPhone and Android and don’t look as polished as Craft’s iOS and iPadOS apps.

User Interface

While Notion pulls ahead with better cross-platform availability, Craft punches back with an excellent user interface. It looks good, feels smooth, and has an overall better user experience.

Notion did improve the UI with frequent updates over time, but the interface refinement is still far from Craft. The software performance is adequate, though. We didn’t face any glitches on Windows and Mac.

Workspace and Organization

Before discussing features, let’s have a word on note organization. You can create a workspace and add pages to it. You can also create a new team space where your team organizes pages, permissions, and members. That way, you can keep your database separate from the team. You can add as many pages as you want in a workspace and neatly organize them to your preference.

You can create a team on Craft and add your personal space. You can now create folders in space and add notes, documents, and templates. Craft has a useful add-on with Daily notes. You can start or end your day with relevant notes and review them in a calendar view.

Templates

Templates play a major role in such software solutions. After all, you won’t want to spend hours creating pages and documents from scratch. Here’s where Notion completely dominates Craft with a rich templates library.

Whether you want a template for marketing, HR, project management, travel, design portfolio, books tracker, or a weekly planner, the default template gallery should be enough for your use case. If that’s not enough, go with the community templates gallery and find a relevant page.

Craft’s template selection is slim compared to Notion, but it’s still good enough for most to get started. Notion also supports widgets from third-party sources. You can add a clock, progress tracker, weather, quote, and widgets to create an aesthetic Notion page.

Features

Notion and Craft have ample editing features to complete a document or a project proposal. Craft’s implementation is better, though. You can click the A icon on the sidebar and review all the editing features. These features are available in the ‘/’ command too.

craft vs notion 7

There is no traditional toolbar on Notion. All Notion features are hidden under the slash command. That’s a bad UX in our books. Craft comes with a dedicated Focus mode to remove all distractions. The same isn’t available on Notion, though.

Notion works well with previewing your Docs, Sheets, Figma, Invision, Miro, Google Maps, Loom, OneDrive, and other files. If you frequently work with such third-party apps, go with Notion. It does a much better job with such integrations. You can also add Zapier, IFTTT, Webex, Bardeen, and other connections.

Craft relies on document aesthetics to impress users. You can set a stunning page style to change the background, add a cover image, and more. Both apps let you check the page activity, memorize keyboard shortcuts, and link related notes.

Artificial Intelligence

Our comparison is incomplete without discussing the hot trend – Artificial Intelligence. You can ask Notion and Craft to brainstorm ideas, write a blog post, create an outline, social media post, creative story, and more.

Notion AI can also summarize a long document. Craft has a built-in translation tool to smoothen the communication between team members from different regions.

Sharing and Collaboration

Thanks to robust sharing and collaboration tools, both Craft and Notion are ideal for small teams and startups. You can create a workspace or team and invite your members to join.

Your members can collaborate on documents, share comments, or even share reactions (on Craft). Notion also supports Kanban boards, which makes project management a breeze. Craft doesn’t have Kanban boards. You can also publish a page or documents online and track the engagement.

Price

Notion’s free plan offers unlimited blocks, limited blocks for teams, basic page analytics, 7-day page history, and up to 10 guests. The Plus plan starts at $10 per month. You can check the overall offering and other places from a dedicated page below.

Craft’s free plan is quite limiting too. You can go with the Craft Pro at $5 per month or the Business plan at $10 per month to unlock custom domain, branding, 1000 AI assistant requests, and up to 100GB of space.

Notion has been dominating the productivity space lately, for good reasons too. However, the company’s desktop and mobile apps leave a lot to desire in terms of UI and UX. Although Craft is a latecomer, it has nailed down the UI aspects. It’s feature-rich too. However, the lack of an Android app may hold back many.
