Sadly, Facebook app, similar to other apps isn’t free of bugs and crashes at times. If you are facing an issue where the Facebook app keeps crashing on your Android device, you have come to the right place.

Here, I will share 9 solutions to fix the Facebook app. Let’s get started.

1. Reboot Phone

If you ask a tech geek to fix any problem on your gadget, the first solution they often give is to reboot the phone. Why is that? Because it works most of the time. Restarting a phone, tablet, or even a PC is known to fix many issues.

2. Log Out From the App

Next, try logging out of the Facebook app. Sometimes an issue prevails with your account session and logging out might fix it.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open the Facebook app and tap on the three-bar icon at the top-right corner.

Step 3: Once you have logged out, log in again.

3. Clear Cache

Similar to restarting the device, clearing cache has also been a major lifesaver for many users. Without erasing any important data, clearing cache fixes issues by deleting temporary files.

To clear cache for the Facebook app, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open device Settings on your phone and tap on Apps & notifications or App Manager depending on the option present in your device.

4. Clear Data

If clearing the cache doesn’t solve the problem, you need to go a step ahead and clear data for the Facebook app. Clearing data is different from clearing cache as it will log you out from the app and delete the app settings as well as the media downloaded from Facebook.

If you have downloaded images from Facebook, use a file explorer or gallery to move them from the Facebook folder to any other folder. That’s why clearing data helps since it wipes out everything present in the Facebook folder.

To clear data of the Facebook app, repeat the steps 1-3 for Clear cache. Then tap on Storage and instead of hitting the Clear cache option, tap on Clear Storage/Clear data.

5. Update the App

Sometimes, the issue could be because of a bug in the Facebook app. Go to the Google Play Store and under My apps, check for an update for the Facebook app. If an update is available, install it immediately. Once installed, restart your device.

6. Reinstall App

Another fix that you can try is to delete the Facebook app and reinstall it on your device. To uninstall the app, go to Play Store and search for Facebook. Then tap on the Uninstall button.

Alternatively, go to Apps & notifications or App Manager under Settings. Tap on Facebook and hit the Uninstall button. Then reinstall it again by downloading it from the Play Store.

7. Install an Older Version of Facebook

If neither updating nor uninstalling the app fixes the issue, you should try rolling back to an older version of the app.

Here’s how to go about it.

Step 1: First, uninstall the Facebook app as shown above.

Step 2: Go to the ApkMirror.com and visit the Facebook app page. From there, you can download the APK file for the previous version of Facebook.

Step 3: Since you haven’t downloaded the APK file from Google Play Store, you would need to enable the Unknown Sources setting to install APK files on devices running Android 7.0 Nougat and below. To do so, go to Settings on your device and tap on Security/Privacy. Then enable Unknown Sources and go to step 4.

8. Disable Power Saving Mode

Sometimes the power saving mode or battery optimizer mode could also be responsible for the Facebook app crash. To check whether it is responsible, you need to disable the Power saving mode.

To do so, go to Settings on your device and tap on Battery. Here, disable the Battery Saver mode. Alternatively, turn off the Battery Saver mode from Quick Settings in the Notification panel.

Still Not Working?

If even after trying out all the solutions mentioned above, the Facebook app still keeps crashing, I would suggest you wait for the next update.

Meanwhile, you can use Facebook from the website on your device or try the Facebook Lite app if it’s available in your country. You can download the Facebook Lite if it’s available in your country by clicking on the button below.

It’s a great data-friendly alternative to the Facebook app. The app is very light and doesn’t consume much memory. The issue with the main Facebook app could be a blessing in disguise for you to switch to the Lite app.
