How to See and Delete Call History on iPhone

Your call logs are a record of the whom you’ve called and those who called you. You can find numbers, saved and unsaved, and get details regarding the call or missed call. This can help you locate a previously unsaved number or remove a spam number. Let us look at how you can see and delete call history on your iPhone.

How to See and Delete Call History on iPhone

While your iPhone can save up to 1000 call log entries, you can only view 100 of them at a time. This means these call history entries will only be visible once the others have been removed to make way. On that note, let’s find out how to see and delete call history on iPhone.

How to Check Call History on iPhone

If you’re looking for any particular contact or just want to know who last called you, you can do it by checking your recent calls on your iPhone. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Open the Phone app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on Recents at the bottom bar.

Tip: You can also tap on Missed to exclusively view missed call logs on your iPhone.

You can now scroll through this page and check your call history on your iPhone. Additionally, if you have received multiple calls from the same contact and would like to know more about it, you can also check individual call history. Here’s how.

For Individual Contacts

Step 1: Open the Phone app and tap on Recents.

Step 2: Tap on the ‘i’ icon before the relevant contact.

Step 3: Check the recent call logs for that contact.

Open individual Call history

While this is a good way to view recent call history for a specific contact, you will only be limited to the number of calls listed before the contact. If you wish to see the details for the same contact but at a different time, you will have to tap on the i icon in front of the listing separately. You can also use this page to check call duration for the relevant contact.

How to Delete Call History on iPhone

The Recents tab only displays your very recent 100 calls. However, if you don’t want anyone’s contact to appear, you can separately delete it from here. Additionally, you can also delete your entire visible call log. Both ways can help make way for the previous call history beyond the 100-entry limit. Here’s how you can use them.

For Individual Contacts

If you would like to get rid of specific contacts from your call logs, you can delete those separately. To do this, you can either swipe left on it or use the edit option. Follow the below steps to do it.

I. Using Swipe Left Option

Step 1: Open the Phone app and tap on Recents from the menu options.

Step 2: Go to the contact you wish to delete from your call history and swipe left on it.

Step 3: Once the option appears, tap on the bin icon.

Delete single call log

You can also continue swiping left even after the bin icon appears. This will also delete the contact from your call logs.

II. Using Edit Option

Step 1: Open the Phone app and tap on Recents.

Step 2: Then, in the top-left corner, tap on Edit.

Step 3: Tap on Select.

Tap on Edit

Step 4: Go to the contact you wish to delete from the call history and tap on the – icon in front of it.

Step 5: Tap on the bin icon to confirm deletion.

Remove single call log

This will immediately delete the specific contact from your recent call history on your iPhone.

For All Contacts

Apart from removing contacts individually, you can also delete your entire call history on your iPhone at once. This will do away with all the call history currently visible on your device’s screen. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Open the Phone app and, from the menu options, tap on Recents.

Step 2: Tap on Edit. Then, tap on Select.

Tap on Edit

Step 3: In the top-right corner, tap on Clear.

Step 4: Tap on ‘Clear All Recents’ to confirm.

Clear all contacts

This will remove all the contact logs currently visible in the Recents tab on your iPhone. Once done, your iPhone might repopulate the Recents list with your old call logs.

FAQs for Viewing Your Call History on iPhone

1. Can you check your call history through your mobile carrier?

Yes, your mobile carrier has a thorough list of all the calls made and received using your number. This record can have up to 6 months worth of call logs or, in certain cases, even more than that. So, you can log into your account on your carrier’s website and see your full call history. If you have multiple numbers linked to the same account, please ensure you select the correct one before proceeding.

2. Can you check your iPhone call history using the Contacts app?

No, you must use the Recents tab on the Phone app to check your call history. The Contacts app will not display this information on your iPhone.

3. Is call history separate for iPhones with dual SIM?

No, your iPhone will show a combined call history for both SIM cards under the Recents section.

4. How to stop sharing call history between two iPhones?

Open the iCloud settings on your iPhone and, under the Phone app option, turn off call history sharing. Once done, sign out and sign back into your Apple ID. If this isn’t available, you can open Settings and tap on General > ‘AirPlay & Handoff’, and turn off the toggle for Handoff. This should stop call history sharing between two iPhones.
