Using Spotify Blend is a great way to create a playlist that reflects the shared music preferences of you and your friends. When you create a Blend playlist with someone, Spotify updates it daily to ensure you are always discovering new music. However, you may not be able to enjoy the benefits of the shared playlist if Spotify Blend stops working or updating on your Android or iPhone.
Luckily, there are ways to address and resolve issues with Spotify Blend. However, before we get to the solutions, it’s important to understand how Spotify Blend works and why it might fail to update daily.
Why Your Spotify Blend Playlist May Not Update
Spotify Blend relies on the listening activities of you and other participants in the playlist to add or remove songs. However, if the algorithm cannot collect enough data on your and your friends’ recent listening activities, your Blend playlist won’t update. This can happen if you or your friends have played any new songs lately.
The more new music you listen to, the more likely Spotify will update your Blend playlist. Also, liking songs on Spotify can help the app learn your preferences and better curate your Blend playlist.
Aside from the above, issues with your network connection, app glitches, and corrupt cache data can also prevent Spotify Blend from updating on your Android or iPhone. If you are unsure of what is causing the problem, try the following tips to resolve it.
1. Check Your Internet Connection
Issues with your internet connection can make it seem like Spotify Blend is not working or updating on your phone. Hence, it’s a good idea to test your connection by running a quick internet speed test.
If your internet connection is unreliable, switch to a different connection and see if that helps.
2. Force Close and Reopen the App
Your Spotify Blend playlist may fail to update if the app experiences problems while running on your Android or iPhone. If it’s just a one-off glitch, restarting the app might help fix it.
To force close Spotify on Android, long-press on its app icon and tap the ‘i’ icon from the resulting menu. On the App info page, tap the Force stop option at the bottom.
If you’re using an iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or press the Home Screen button twice to bring up the app switcher. Locate the Spotify card and swipe up on it to close the app.
Reopen the app and see if Spotify Blend is working.
3. Sign Out and Sign Back In
Signing out of the Spotify app and back in can help re-establish Spotify’s connection to the server, resolving any temporary glitches. To sign out of the Spotify app, tap the gear-shaped icon in the top right corner and scroll down to tap on Log out.
Sign back into your Spotify account and check if the issue persists.
4. Clear Spotify App Cache
At times, corrupt or outdated cache data interferes with the Spotify app and prevents it from updating your Blend playlist. For such instances, Spotify allows you to clear the cache directly from its settings menu. The following steps will work for Android and iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Spotify app on your phone and tap the gear-shaped icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Scroll down to tap the Clear cache option. Select Clear cache again when the confirmation prompt appears.
5. Temporarily Disable VPN
Using a VPN connection can sometimes lead to issues with Spotify. To investigate this possibility, you can temporarily disable the VPN on your Android or iPhone.
6. Check Spotify’s Server Status
While it’s not a common occurrence, Spotify servers can sometimes go down. When this happens, Spotify Blend may stop working or updating on your phone. You can visit a website like Downdetector to check if there’s a widespread outage.
If the servers are down, you’ll need to wait until the company fixes the issue on its end.
7. Update the App
You may be using an outdated version of Spotify if you have disabled automatic app updates on your Android or iPhone. Head over to the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone) and search for the Spotify app. Tap the Update button if a newer version is available and see if that gets Spotify Blend to work.
8. Recreate the Blend Playlist
If nothing else works, your last option is to create your Blend playlist again and start afresh. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Open the Spotify app and navigate to the Search tab. Then, tap the ‘Made For You’ card.
Step 2: Tap the Create a Blend option and select Invite.
Step 3: Share the link with your friends and ask them to join.
After Spotify creates your Blend playlist, it will update regularly. After that, you and your friends can leave the older playlist using these steps:
Step 1: Open the Spotify app, head to the Your Library tab, and select your Blend playlist.
Step 2: Tap the three-dot menu icon and select the Leave Blend option.
